About the Farm

Tulmeadow Farm is one of Connecticut’s most enduring agricultural treasures, with roots reaching back to 1768. Nestled in the heart of West Simsbury, its 265 acres have been continuously farmed by the Tuller family for over 240 years. Originally known simply as the farm of its cultivator—as was common in early New England—it became known as Tulmeadow in the early 20th century, named after a meadow north of the cow barn and in homage to the family name. Over the centuries, the farm has evolved through many forms of production, from dairy cows and chickens to tobacco and Christmas trees, always adapting while remaining grounded in tradition.

In recent decades, Tulmeadow has embraced a direct-to-consumer model that reflects both old-world simplicity and modern sustainability. The bustling farm store sells everything from freshly harvested vegetables and pasture-raised meats to locally made jams, cheeses, and baked goods. Its greenhouse operations extend the growing season, and the beloved ice cream—made in-house since 1994—has become a regional icon. From field to freezer, every pint is crafted with care, earning Tulmeadow accolades and a loyal following.

Yet, beyond its wide array of offerings, Tulmeadow is a story of preservation and care. The Tullers work in partnership with the Simsbury Land Trust to ensure that this historic farmland and its surrounding forests remain protected for generations to come. With careful stewardship of the land, low-chemical growing practices, and a genuine passion for community, Tulmeadow Farm remains a living legacy—where the past is honored, the present is full of flavor, and the future is rooted in integrity.
